I'd like to welcome Pokerface to The Golden Circle. His no nonsense take on the business is both refreshing and a cold hard pimp slap to the face. One of the few guys that I can tell has the same passion for genuine creativity as I do. Enjoy and don't forget to Poke your Vote.
BOOKING and SUCH
I would like to, once again, talk about something that I've touched on before on another website, Booking and Such. First the, and Such part. Organization is probably one of the most important things in business, whether it's wrestling or otherwise. One thing I hate is to be told or find out who I'm wrestling, five minutes before the show starts. I know that in some cases this can't be avoided. Most of the times it's due to management not having an idea who's going to be there to wrestle. Communication guys. Bookers, promoters, etc, it can be as easy as just writing it down on paper who's gonna be there and who's not. If a guy no shows you, don't use him. I've seen two situations recently, I was involved in one, where management was notified that certain wrestlers would not be at the show on a certain day, but it wasn't relayed to the other members of management. Then when it's time to start the show, everybody was like, "WTF". Another "And Such" topic is caring. Bookers, CARE ABOUT YOUR SHOW!!!!!!!!!! Now read that back 5 times please. I've recently done shows where it seems that the shot callers were just there to take up space. They gave me no directions, I actually had to make three matches on the fly, right at bell time. I am not the promoter! None of management was where I could find them. Listen guys, I actually care about my shit. A lot of times I would be given free reign to do whatever. I don't like that. Show your wrestlers that you care. Show the people that you care. If you don't, it definitely shows in the final product. Bookers have a format sheet. For you dumbasses wondering what that is, that's the little sheet with a list of the matches, interviews, time limits, and breaks. It's not hard guys. And to the wrestlers, if you feel the need to mingle with the fans before, during, and after the matches, buy a muthafucking ticket. Promoters who are on the show, yall are just as guilty at times, too. It's different if you are trying to sell merchandise or taking pictures with the fans, but there's even a limit to that.
Booking
I really don't have that much to say about about booking. The main thing is to just try to keep things exciting as possible. You really have to look at your roster ,and try to pair up the best guys or girls against each other. You should have some kind of idea who your top guys are, and book your show accordingly. Most matches are just thrown together. Trust me. I've seen it. Start bringing in talent from other areas. I've met some guys from a wrestling organization in Illinois, that would love to come to some of these towns and wrestle. You can only see the hometown boys wrestle so many times. If you have sub par talent, tell them MFers to get better. I'm just saying. Don't bring in big names if you are not gonna really get out and promote show. For example, don't bring in a guy like John Cena, and your only means of promoting the show is putting a poster in a gas station window. If you are bringing in a "name", that "name" should at least, at least, at least, bring in an extra 75 - 100 extra fans. That's depending on what you are paying them. If you are drawing the same numbers, then don't book any "names" for awhile, and you might wanna attend, Promoting 101, I'm sure it's offered online. Well that's all for now. God Bless and keep your Pimp Hand Strong.
